Stewart S.W. Shum
Principal Designer
SingaporeStewart is a human-centred design and transformation leader with more than 18 years of experience. He works on complex challenges at the intersection of people, services, systems and organisations to redesign services and experiences around the people affected.
A particular focus of Stewart’s work is public-sector and social-impact transformation. He is interested in how governments and public-purpose organisations can improve access to services and opportunities, particularly for communities whose needs are often overlooked. His work brings together citizens, communities, frontline teams and decision-makers to co-design practical improvements.
For the past four years, Stewart has been experimenting and building with an evolving set of AI tools to understand where they create meaningful value and where they don’t. His work increasingly focuses on the intersection of AI, human-centred design and trust.
Stewart believes organisations should start not with what AI can do, but with the problem to be solved, the people affected and the value to be created. He is particularly interested in how co-design can help shape AI-enabled services and decisions that are useful, understandable and worthy of trust.
Stewart draws on experience across design, business, technology, data and operations. Based at ThinkPlace Singapore, he works across Southeast Asia on co-design, public-service transformation, digital change and AI-enabled service innovation..
